Essential pointers for household dusting!
Did you know that at least 85 % of dust found in the home materialises from human skin flakes and material fabrics! Dust therefore is just about impossible to eliminate! We can however decrease some of the most common errors people make when going about their weekly dusting chores! Carry on reading the below information to gain some invaluable knowledge on dust-busting magic!
Firstly, how about reorganising your wardrobe? Believe it or not, the clothes that we wear, the towels that we dry off with and the bed linen which we sleep on continuously disperse microscopic fibres in to the air. This may sound a little extreme, but it is actually highly practical to keep fabric materials inside garment containers or vacuum bags. It's also a good idea to regularly vacuum or wipe your wardrobe floor over. This will help to keep fibres down to an absolute minimum! Think about changing your bed linen twice weekly as fresh laundered bed linen does not contain skin particles so it’s another great way of eliminating unwanted dust!
Rugs, carpets, sofas and cushions are dust magnets! Don't be afraid to give your rugs and cushions a good beating to eradicate some of that dreaded dust. Wash carpets as often as practically possible. It’s amazing how much dust lies within your carpets! If we think about it practically, the dust that settles on your mantel piece each week, also collects on the carpets except we can't physically see it, but it is there for sure! Try to avoid the use of feather dust spreaders! These simply spread the dust particles in to the air from one place to another! Use either a damp cloth or microfiber dusting cloths and always remember to wash them thoroughly between dusting one surface and another.
When dusting, try using a light dusting spray or polish. When cleaning from floor to ceiling, always start from the top and work your way down. A common mistake people make is forgetting to clean the vacuum filters. A clean filter will also improve your vacuums suction performance! The use of air cleaners are also highly recommended, these units can drastically reduce the dust in a room.
If you have air conditioning, then it's a good idea to rinse the unit’s filters as dirty air conditioning units combined with blasting air are a perfect recipe for spreading dust all over your home! Make sure the filters are thoroughly dry before placing back in to the unit! Another option is to vacuum the air conditioning filters on a regular basis.
